Caribbean Beef Patties

Bring the sunshine to your home with these Homemade Caribbean Beef Patties. Homemade turmeric pastry with a spicy minced beef filling.




Ingredients


Pastry Ingredients

  • 250 grams Plain Flour

  • 115 grams Unsalted Butter

  • 1 tsp Turmeric

  • 1 tsp Curry Powder

  • 1 tsp Salt

  • 120 ml Cold Water

Beef Filling

  • 1 tbsp Vegetable oil

  • 1 Onion - Finely Chopped

  • 1 Red Pepper - Finely Chopped

  • 3 Spring Onions - Finely Chopped

  • 500 grams Beef mince

  • 1 tsp Gia Garlic Puree

  • 1 tsp Gia Chilli Puree

  • 2 tsp Curry Powder

  • 1 tsp Paprika

  • 1 tsp Turmeric

  • 1 tsp Salt

  • 1 tsp Fresh Thyme

  • 190 ml Stock

Glaze

  • 1 Egg

  • 2 tbsp Water


Instructions


Pastry

  • Put pastry ingredients (except the water) in a food processor and mix until it represents breadcrumbs. Can rub with fingertips instead if not got a processor.

  • Add splashes of cold water a little at a time kneading with hands into the dough until it has a smooth texture. Work quickly to prevent the pastry getting warm in your hands


  • Cover in cling film and place in fridge to chill whilst you create filling.

Beef mince patty filling

  • Heat oil in a pan, add onions and red peppers cook for 5 minutes, then add spring onions.

  • Add beef mince, garlic puree, chilli puree, curry powder, paprika, turmeric thyme and salt. Stir together


  • Finally add stock, bring to boil, then turn to lowest setting. Cover with lid and simmer for 15 minutes. Roll pastry and shape ready to fill during this time.

Create Patties

  • Preheat oven to 190°C (fan). Remove the pastry from the fridge, flour surface and roll the pastry out very thin.


  • Use a small plate to cut around the rolled pastry. Re-roll the remaining pastry until all used up, you should have 6 circles.

  • Place onto parchment paper and add 3 tbsp of beef mixture in the middle.

  • Wet finger with water and dap around the outer circle of pastry.


  • Fold pastry over the top of the mince and use a fork to seal the edges together.

  • Whisk egg and water together to form a glaze to spread over the pastry with a brush.

  • Place patties onto a tray and cook in a 190°C fan oven for 20-25 minutes.
